Sineng Electric Facilitates Commissioning of 65MW PV Plant for Water Desalination Project in Saudi Arabia

Shuaibah, KSA, May 20, 2025 – Sineng Electric, a global leader in solar and energy storage solutions, in collaboration with LBPKSA the solution provider and the solar EPC contractor for the project, has delivered its high-performance PV solutions for the 65MW solar power plant, now in commercial operation. This plant supplies clean energy to the Shuaibah 3 Independent Water Project (IWP), a major seawater desalination facility located in Shuaibah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Water scarcity poses a major challenge across the Middle East, necessitating substantial investments in large-scale desalination infrastructure. In response, the Shuaibah 3 IWP utilizes Reverse Osmosis (RO) technology to produce a staggering 600,000 cu/m of potable water per day, catering to the daily needs of approximately two million individuals.

To minimize the environmental impact of this energy-intensive process, a 65MW solar power plant was constructed and recently commissioned. Spearheaded by Shuaibah 3 Company, with Doosan Enerbility as the main EPC, this project is a flagship initiative in the region. Operating in the arid desert environment requires highly efficient and reliable energy solutions. Sineng's 6.6MW MV turnkey solution (EP-6600-HB-UD/13.8), renowned for its superior performance and robust design, proved to be the perfect fit for the project’s unique requirements. This PV solution integrates a medium-voltage transformer and RMU, offering up to 99% maximum efficiency and a DC/AC ratio of up to 1.8. Its capability to accommodate larger block sizes streamlines installation and maintenance, while significantly reducing balance-of-system (BoS) costs and lowering the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE).
