Sineng Electric Successfully Completes Black Start Validation at Energy Storage Project in Uzbekistan

Namangan, Uzbekistan, July 23, 2026 — Sineng Electric has successfully completed a whole-station black start validation at a 100 MW/200 MWh grid-forming energy storage project in the Namangan Region of Uzbekistan, marking a significant milestone in strengthening grid resilience and enhancing the reliability of the country's electricity supply. As one of the flagship projects supporting Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy, the validation underscores the vital role of grid-forming energy storage in strengthening power system reliability and enabling higher penetration of renewable energy.

The project, with a total capacity of 119.25 MW/265 MWh, is equipped with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology and powered by Sineng Electric’s 1,250 kW central PCS. It marks a significant milestone as Uzbekistan's first large-scale grid-forming energy storage project to successfully demonstrate black start capability. With limited local experience and no established implementation standards for projects of this kind, Sineng Electric worked closely with the project owner and EPC contractor to develop a comprehensive black start implementation plan, covering system design, control parameter setting, protection coordination, and testing. The successful execution establishes a valuable technical reference for future grid-forming energy storage deployments across the region.

During the validation, the project simulated a complete grid blackout to verify its ability to restore power independently without external electricity supply. Leveraging Sineng Electric's next-generation grid-forming technology, Sineng Electric's 1250 kW central PCS rapidly established a stable local grid from zero-voltage and zero-frequency conditions. Throughout the restoration process, the system successfully addressed complex technical challenges, including circulating currents during parallel operation, transformer magnetizing inrush currents, and sudden load impact currents.

To ensure the success of the project, Sineng Electric deployed an experienced on-site engineering team specializing in hardware, software, communication, and control systems. Through close collaboration with project stakeholders, the team completed all commissioning and testing activities efficiently, achieving a successful black start. The project further demonstrates Sineng Electric's comprehensive capabilities in delivering grid-forming energy storage solutions, from system design and engineering to commissioning, validation, and long-term technical support.

As power systems worldwide continue to accommodate higher shares of renewable energy, grid-forming energy storage is becoming increasingly critical to maintaining grid stability, enhancing system resilience, and enabling rapid restoration following major grid disturbances. The successful completion of the Namangan project further reinforces Sineng Electric's commitment to delivering advanced energy storage technologies that address the evolving needs of modern power systems.
